Title: Prohibits Employment Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation

Vote on a motion to invoke cloture on a bill that prohibits employers from discriminating based on sexual orientation.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits an employer or employment agency from refusing to hire, refusing to refer, discharging, harassing, or otherwise discriminating against any individual with respect to compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment because of the individual’s sexual orientation (Sec. 7).
  • Prohibits an employer from limiting, advertising, soliciting, segregating, or classifying employees in any way that would deprive an individual of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect an individual’s status as an employee because of his or her sexual orientation (Sec. 7).
  • Prohibits a labor organization from excluding or expelling an individual from its membership, or otherwise discriminating against an individual because of his or her sexual orientation (Sec. 9).
  • Prohibits an individual, firm, or corporation engaged in the production, manufacture, or distribution of military or naval supplies in the state of Nebraska from refusing to employ a qualified individual because of the individual’s sex, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability (Sec. 4).
