Vote to pass a bill that amends the existing texting while driving prohibition.

Highlights:

• Exempts an individual from the existing texting while driving prohibition when using a personal communication device for the purpose of making a phone call, unless the individual is in a highway work zone or in a school area when the flasher lights are flashing (Sec. 1).

• Exempts an individual from the existing texting while driving prohibition when using a Bluetooth or other electronic system where the input of information and use of the system is entirely hands-free (Sec. 1).

• Increases the fines for violation of the existing texting while driving prohibition from $25 to $50 for the first offense and from $50 to $100 for each subsequent offense of this bill (Sec. 2).
