Title: Increases the Minimum Wage

Vote to pass a bill that increases the minimum wage, effective immediately.

Highlights:

  • Increases the minimum hourly wage from $7.25 to the following amounts (Sec. 1):
    • $7.75 beginning January 1, 2015; 
    • $8.50 beginning January 1, 2016;
    • $9.25 beginning January 1, 2017; and
    • $10.00 beginning January 1, 2018.
  • Authorizes the hourly wage of a tipped employee to be increased if the employee is paid not less than the following increments below the applicable minimum wage and the gross amount the employee receives from the employer and in tips is at least 250 percent of the poverty level (Sec.1):
    • From 25 cents per hour to 50 cents per hour beginning January 1, 2015;
    • From 50 cents per hour to 75 cents per hour beginning January 1, 2016; and
    • From 75 cents per hour to $1.00 per hour beginning January 1, 2017.
  • Requires the director to establish the poverty level to be used the following year to calculate the tip credit by October 1 of each year (Sec.1).
