Vote to pass a bill that authorizes unannounced inspections of licensed abortion clinics.

Highlights:

• Authorizes the Director of the Department of Health Services and a designated agent of the director to inspect a licensed abortion clinic during regular business hours to determine compliance with state and federal laws (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the Director of the Department of Health Services may authorize an inspection only if there is reasonable cause to believe an abortion clinic is not adhering to the licensing requirements of this bill or any other law (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that an application for licensure or re-licensure gives permission for an inspection of the abortion clinic while the application is pending and, if licensed, during the term of the license (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the Attorney General or any other county or city attorney to defend the provisions in this bill (Sec. 1). 

• Classifies the crime of intentionally causing, aiding, or assisting a minor in obtaining an abortion as a Class 1 misdemeanor (Sec. 2). 

• Specifies that if any provision of this bill is held invalid, the remaining portions of the bill are severable and not impacted (Sec. 6).
