Title: Prohibits Cell Phone Use by Minors While Driving

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits certain individuals from using a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle, effective June 30, 2015.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits the following individuals from operating a motor vehicle while using a wireless communication device, except in the case of an emergency when stopping the motor vehicle is impossible or will create an additional emergency or safety hazard (Sec. 1):
    • An individual with a Class D license; and
    • An individual who has held a Class G license less than 6 months. 
  • Prohibits a peace officer from stopping or issuing a citation to an individual for a violation of this bill unless the peace officer has reasonable cause to believe that there is another alleged violation of a motor vehicle law (Sec. 1).
