Vote to pass a bill that expands requirements for abortion providers.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits a physician from performing an abortion unless the physician has admitting privileges in writing, or has entered into a written agreement with a physician who has admitting privileges in writing, at a hospital in the county where abortions are provided or in a contiguous county, whereas existing law did not require the agreements be in writing (Sec. 3).
  • Requires an abortion clinic to complete certain actions including, but not limited to, provide a copy of the written admitting privileges to the Department of Health (Sec. 3).
  • Requires the physician that it is to perform the abortion to provide the abortion patient at least 18 prior to the abortion a brochure with certain information including, but not limited to, the name and telephone number of the hospital where the physician who is to perform the abortion has admitting privileges (Sec. 2).
  • Requires the abortion clinic in which the abortion is to be performed to inform the patient at least 18 hours prior to the abortion of the facility’s emergency telephone number that is available and answered at all times (Sec. 2).
  • Authorizes the Department of Health to inspect an abortion clinic per calendar year and authorizes the Department to conduct a complaint inspection “as needed” (Sec. 1).
