Title: Amends Education Standards

Vote to pass a bill that repeals Common Core Standards implementation requirements.

Highlights:
  • Repeals implementation requirements for educational standards adopted before July 1, 2014 including, but not limited to, the Common Core standards (Sec. 1).
  • Requires the State Board of Education to adopt new educational standards no later than July 1, 2014 which meet conditions including, but not limited to the following (Sec. 1):
    • The standards meet the national and international benchmarks for “college and career readiness standards” and the postsecondary educational expectations;
    • The standards comply with federal standards to receive a flexibility waiver; 
    • The standards prepare Indiana students for college and career success; and
    • The standards must “maintain Indiana sovereignty.” 
  • Defines “college and career readiness education standards” as the standards that a high school graduate must meet to obtain the requisite knowledge and skill to transition without remediation to postsecondary education or training, and ultimately into a sustainable career (Sec. 1).
