Vote to adopt a conference report that establishes the North Carolina Charter School Advisory Board.

Highlights:

• Establishes the North Carolina Charter School Advisory Board, under the State Department of Education, to authorize and oversee public charter schools (Sec. 1).

• Requires the membership of the Board to consist of the following 12 members (Sec. 1):
• 1 nonvoting member to be the State Superintendent of Public Instruction;
• 1 voting member to be the Lieutenant Governor or the Lieutenant Governor's designee;
• 3 voting members appointed by the Governor, including the chair of the Advisory Board;
• 3 voting members appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives;
• 3 voting members appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the President Pro Tempore of the Senate; and
• 1 voting member appointed by the State Board of Education.

• Specifies that there is a 4 year term limit for appointed members and prohibits an appointed member from serving for more than 2 terms (Sec. 1).
