Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that prohibits discrimination based on an individual's gender identity.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits discrimination on the basis of an individual’s “gender identity” in certain situations, including, but not limited to, the following situations (Secs. 1, 4-6, 9-14, 16, 19, 21, 25, & 26):
    • On the basis of housing;
    • On the basis of employment;
    • On the basis of public work contracting;
    • On the basis of public accommodations; and
    • On the basis of insurance claims.
  • Defines “gender identity” as a gender-related identity, appearance, expression, or behavior of an individual, regardless of the individual’s assigned sex at birth, that is part of an individual’s core identity, but may not be asserted for any “improper” purpose (Secs. 3, 8, 16, 18, & 23).
  • Authorizes a business to provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with a gender identity that is different from their assigned sex at birth in areas where disrobing is “likely” to occur (Sec. 5).
  • Expands the definition of a hate crime to include the act of intentionally harming an individual because of his or her gender identity (Sec. 15).
