Title: Increases Speed Limit on Non-Urban Highways

Vote to pass a bill that increases the speed limit on non-urban highways to 70 mph.

Highlights:
  • Increases the speed limit on non-urban interstate highways to 70 mph (Sec. 5).
  • Increases the speed limit on highways with 4 lanes of traffic and separation between roadways moving in opposite directions to 65 mph (Sec. 5).
  • Authorizes the following counties to set lower speed limits than specified in the provisions of this bill (Sec. 5):
    • Cook County;
    • DuPage County;
    • Kane County;
    • Lake County;
    • Madison County;
    • McHenry County;
    • St. Clair County; and 
    • Will County.
  • Classifies the crime of driving 35 mph or more over the speed limit as a Class A misdemeanor (Sec. 5).
  • Classifies the crime of driving between 26 and 35 mph above the speed limit as a Class B misdemeanor (Sec. 5).
