Title: Amends Public School Evaluation System

Vote to adopt a conference report vote that amends the public school evaluation system.

Highlights:

  • Requires the State Board of Education to establish new categories of school performance no later than November 15, 2013 with the following criteria for assessing school performance (Sec. 105):
    • The standards must be based on a measurement of individual student academic performance and growth to proficiency; and
    • The standards may not be based on a measurement of student performance or growth compared with peers. 
  • Prohibits the State Board of Education from implementing the standards developed by the Common Core State Standards Initiative after May 15, 2014 until the State Board conducts a comprehensive evaluation as described by the provisions of this bill (Sec. 13). 
  • Requires the State Board of Education to adopt college and career readiness education standards that meet national and international benchmarks and align with postsecondary educational expectations (Sec. 13).
