Vote to pass a bill that establishes certain labor laws for employers of domestic workers.

Highlights:

• Requires an employer to provide certain compensation conditions to “domestic workers” including, but not limited to, the following conditions (Sec. 1):
• Provide 1.5 times the domestic worker’s base wage for time worked in excess of 40 hours a week, or in excess of 44 hours a week if the domestic worker lives in the home of the employer;
• Provide 24 consecutive hours of rest each week or 1.5 times pay domestic worker’s base wage if the domestic worker agrees to work on the day of rest; and
• Provide at least 3 paid personal days off work after 1 year of employment.

• Defines “domestic worker” as an individual who works in another individual’s home for the purpose of caring for a child, performing housework, or providing other domestic service with exceptions including, but not limited to, the following exceptions (Sec. 1).
• A parent or spouse of the employer;
• A child of the employer under 21 years of age;
• A babysitter under 18 years of age; or
• An employee paid by public funds.

• Prohibits an employer from engaging in certain actions with a domestic worker including, but not limited to, the following actions (Sec. 1):
• Requesting to have possession of the domestic worker’s passport;
• Engaging in unwelcome sexual advances; or
• Subjecting the domestic worker to harassment based on race, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or national origin. 

• Authorizes a domestic worker to file a complaint for a violation of this bill with the Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries (Sec. 3).
