Vote to pass a bill that authorizes a county or city clerk to establish polling places that are open to any individual entitled to vote in the county or city.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes the county or city clerk to establish one or more polling places in the county or city open to any individual entitled to vote in person in the county or city (Secs. 2 & 13).
  • Requires the county or city clerk to perform the following tasks when establishing a polling place (Secs. 3 & 14):
    • Provide the criteria to be used to select a polling place; and
    • Inform the board of county commissioners, the city council or other governing body of the city of the sites established as polling places, if any.
  • Requires the county or city clerk to make available the location of each established polling place by performing the following tasks (Secs. 4 & 15):
    • Publish a notice of the locations established in newspapers during the week before the election;
    • Produce copies of the locations established to the public in “reasonable” quantities without charge; and 
    • Post a copy of the locations established on bulletin boards used for posting notices of meetings of the board of county commissioners, the city council or the governing body of the city.
  • Prohibits the county or city clerk from establishing any additional polling place after the publications of polling places (Secs. 4 & 15).
  • Requires the county or city clerk to recommend a procedure, approved by the Secretary of State, to determine that a voter has not previously voted in the same election (Secs. 7 & 18).
