Vote to pass a bill that authorizes certain university students to transport a licensed handgun or ammunition in a locked motor vehicle on a college or university campus, effective September 1, 2013.

Highlights:

• Prohibits any public, private, or independent institution of higher education from prohibiting a student who is enrolled at the institution and who holds a concealed handgun license from transporting or storing the firearm or ammunition for the firearm in a locked, privately owned motor vehicle on the campus of the institution (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes a student to transport or store a firearm or ammunition for the firearm on a street, driveway, parking lot, or parking garage of the institute of higher education’s campus (Sec. 1).

• Defines “campus” as all land and buildings owned or leased by an institution of higher education (Sec. 1).
