Vote to adopt a conference report that requires the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks to pay for damage to private property caused by wild bison, effective July 1, 2013.

Highlights:
  • Requires the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks to pay for damage caused to private property by wild buffalo or bison, including the costs of protecting public safety (Sec. 1).
  • Specifies that the department is not liable for damage caused by wild buffalo or bison from Yellowstone National Park or bison owned by tribal entities (Sec. 1).
  • Requires the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks to determine an estimate of the private property damages and costs for which it would be liable if any released, transplanted, or wild buffalo or bison escape (Sec. 2).
