Vote to pass a bill that prohibits minors from using tanning facilities.

Highlights:

• Prohibits an individual under the age of 18 from using a tanning device (Sec. 3).

• Requires all customers at a tanning facility to present proof of age with a government-issued identification containing the date of birth and photograph of the individual before using a tanning device (Sec. 3).

• Requires the tanning facility to provide every customer a consent form that includes a warning of the health issues related to the use of tanning devices (Sec. 3).

• Requires every tanning facility to obtain a business registration certificate and register with the local board of health to conduct annual inspections, effective July 1, 2014 (Sec. 2).

• Classifies the owner of a tanning facility who does not obtain a business registration certificate, register with the local board of health, or request an inspection as guilty of a misdemeanor with the following penalties (Sec. 6):
• $500 fine for first offense;
• Up to $2,000 fine and/or jail time up to 1 year for second offense;
• Up to $5,000 fine and/or jail time up to 1 year for third offense; and
• Suspension of the owner’s business registration certificate for third or subsequent offense.
