Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that authorizes certain undocumented students and qualified veterans to receive in-state tuition.

Highlights:

• Exempts state educational institutions from being required to verify the legal status of a student if all the following apply (Sec. 1):
• The student is eligible to pay the in-state tuition rate of the state educational institution;
• The student is not applying for any state, local or federal public benefit other than the in-state tuition rate; and
• The student was enrolled in the state educational institution on or before July 1, 2011.

• Exempts state agencies from being required to verify the legal status of a student applying for a scholarship, grant or financial aid if the individual is not applying for any other state, local or federal public benefit (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes a “qualified veteran” to receive the resident tuition rate while attending a state educational institution if he or she enrolls in the institution within 12 months of their discharge date (Sec. 3).
