  • Increases fines for the use of handheld personal communication devices for the purpose of texting while driving as follows (Sec. 1):
    • From $20 to $250 for a first offense; and
    • From $50 to $500 for subsequent offenses.
  • Establishes a fine of $500 for individuals convicted of reckless driving who were also texting at the time of the offense (Sec. 1).
  • Repeals the requirement for an officer to first stop an individual for another violation before citing the individual for a violation relating to the use of a handheld personal communications device for the purpose of texting while driving (Sec. 1).
