Title: Increases Compensation for Court Magistrates

Vote to pass a bill that removes the population-based salary system for court magistrate employees and increases the annual salaries of magistrate employees, beginning July 1, 2013.

Highlights:

  • Requires all magistrates to receive a salary of $57,500, whereas existing law required magistrates (Sec. 3):
    • Serving less than 8,400 individuals to receive a maximum salary of $51,125; and 
    • Serving 8,400 individuals or more to receive a maximum salary of $57,500. 
  • Increases the salary of all court magistrate clerks to $44,720, whereas existing law required clerks (Sec. 8):
    • Serving less than 8,400 individuals to receive a maximum salary of $36,436; and 
    • Serving 8,400 individuals or more to receive a maximum salary of $41,344. 
  • Increases the salary of all magistrate assistants and magistrate deputy clerks to $39,348, whereas existing law required assistants and deputy clerks (Sec. 9):
    • Serving less than 8,400 individuals to receive a maximum salary of $33,148; and 
    • Serving 8,400 individuals or more to receive a maximum salary of $36,244.
