Title: Authorizes Public Schools to Offer Elective Bible Study Classes
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes school districts to offer elective credit courses in biblical studies, effective July 1, 2013.
- Authorizes school districts to offer religiously neutral elective credit courses on the Bible to students beginning in grade 9 which may include, but are not limited to, the following information (Sec. 1):
- The contents, history and literary style of the Old and New Testaments; and
- The Bible’s influence on laws, history, literature, and government.
- Prohibits a student from being required to use a specific translation as the sole text for the course (Sec. 1).
