Vote to pass a bill that authorizes telephone utility companies to no longer provide state-wide land-line access.

Highlights:

• Authorizes telephone utility companies to no longer provide state-wide land-line access (Sec. 1).

• Requires telephone utility companies to continue providing basic local exchange services to residences in the following circumstances (Sec. 1):
• The residence currently exists; and
• The residence is located in an area with less than 5000 housing units.

• Exempts the telephone utility company from providing basic local exchange services in the following circumstances (Sec. 1):
• The telephone utility company offers an alternative telephone service;
• There are at least 2 providers offering telephone services in the area; or
• There is at least 1 provider of broadband service that is capable of delivering telephone service.

• Authorizes the Kentucky Public Service Commission to assist in the resolution of consumer complaints, whereas existing law specifies that the Commission is required to investigate and resolve consumer complaints (Secs. 1-3).
