Title: Authorizes Home-Schooled Students To Participate In Interscholastic Programs

Highlights:

  • Requires public schools to allow students who receive home instruction to participate in  interscholastic programs and set policies governing such participation (Sec. 1).
  • Authorizes the school to charge a fee to a student who receives home instruction that covers the cost of participation, including insurance, equipment, uniforms and other related costs (Sec. 1). 
  • Requires students who receive home instruction and participate in interscholastic programs to meet the following requirements (Sec. 1): 
    • Participate only within the attendance zone in which the student lives;
    • Comply with immunization requirements;
    • Not reach the age of 19 by August 1 of the current academic year; and
    • Comply with all disciplinary rules and academic requirements.
  • Specifies that the provisions of this act will expire on July 1, 2018 (Sec. 2).
