Vote to pass a bill that requires written parental or guardian consent in order for students to participate in sexual education classes, effective July 1, 2013.

Highlights:

• Requires written parental or guardian consent in order for students to participate in any course of instruction, class period, assembly, or organized school function regarding sexual education (Sec. 2).

• Prohibits abortion service providers from offering, sponsoring, or furnishing course materials or instruction for sexual education (Sec. 2).

• Requires schools to notify parents or guardians at least 48 hours prior to hosting a sexual education event or assembly and to include information about the content of the sexual education instruction (Sec. 2).

• Requires school districts to provide public access to sexual education curriculum material prior to the use of the material in actual instruction (Sec. 2).
