Title: Authorizes Same-Sex Civil Unions
Vote to pass a bill that defines and specifies the extent of domestic partnerships, effective July 1, 2013.
- Establishes domestic partnerships in Wyoming, with the individuals in a domestic partnership having the rights, responsibilities, protections, and legal benefits provided in state law for immediate family members (Sec. 1).
- Defines “domestic partnership” as a civil union between 2 “natural people” who are consenting adults and at least 18 years of age (Sec. 1).
- Specifies that a domestic partnership is certified by the Wyoming county clerk (Sec. 1).
- Expands the term “spouse” in Wyoming law to include individuals who are in a domestic partnership (Sec. 1).
- Requires the state of Wyoming to recognize all domestic partnerships which are valid by the laws of the state in which they were entered (Sec. 1).
- Classifies entering into a marriage and a domestic partnership simultaneously or having more than 1 domestic partnership at a time as a felony, with a fine of up to $5,000 and up to 5 years in prison for a violation (Sec. 1).
