Vote to pass a bill that authorizes qualified residents to register to vote online.

Highlights:

• Authorizes an individual qualified to vote and who has a valid driver’s license or identification card issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to submit a voter registration form electronically through the Secretary of State website (Sec. 1).

• Requires online applicants to submit the following forms of identification (Sec. 1):
• His or her New Jersey driver’s license or non-driver identification card number;
• His or her date of birth;
• His or her Social Security number; and
• Any other information the Secretary of State deems necessary to establish the identity of the applicant completing the form.

• Requires the Secretary of State to obtain an electronic copy of the online applicant’s signature from his or her identification card directly from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that an individual be automatically alerted once an online voter registration application has been submitted successfully and provided with instructions on how to follow up on the status of their application (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes an applicant that is unable to submit the voter registration application electronically to complete the online registration form on the Secretary of State’s website, print a paper copy and mail or deliver it to the Secretary of State or appropriate county official (Sec. 1).
