Title: Establishes a 5 Percent Fee on Satellite TV Companies
Vote to pass a bill that establishes a 5 percent fee based on gross revenue for satellite broadcast providers.
- Requires direct broadcast satellite service providers to pay a 5 percent fee based on the provider’s gross revenues received from customers or subscribers in Illinois (Sec. 10).
- Defines “gross revenue” as payment collected by providers from their subscribers or customers as compensation for providing broadcast satellite television service (Sec. 5).
- Specifies that “direct broadcast satellite service” does not include satellite or subscription radio service through which the radio signal is broadcast without related video programming or services (Sec. 5).
- Authorizes the provider to pass on the fee to their customers in the state (Sec. 10).
- Requires the proceeds from the fee to be deposited into the Education Assistance Fund in the State Treasury (Sec. 25).
