Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that authorizes registered nurses to dispense contraceptives.

Highlights:

• Authorizes registered nurses working in licensed primary care clinics to dispense contraceptive drugs or devices upon prescription by any of the following, whereas existing law requires a licensed physician to prescribe the medication (Sec. 1):
• A physician;
• A nurse practitioner;
• A nurse-midwife; or
• A physician’s assistant.

• Requires a physician, nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, or a physician’s assistant to evaluate a patient who has exclusively seen a registered nurse for 3 consecutive years before continuing the use of any contraceptive (Sec. 2).

• Authorizes a registered nurse to dispense and administer FDA-approved hormonal contraceptives (Sec. 2).
