Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that authorizes an increase in filing fees to fund an e-court information system.

Highlights:
  • Authorizes the Supreme Court to increase filing fees and statutory fees in order to fund the Twenty-First Century Justice Improvement Fund (Sec. 1).
  • Establishes the Twenty-First Century Justice Improvement Fund and requires that it be credited annually with a sum equal to the revenue annually derived from the incremental amount of any filing fee or statutory fee (Sec. 3).
  • Requires funds in the Twenty-First Century Justice Improvement Fund, to the extent that they are sufficiently available, to be used as follows (Secs. 3 & 4):
    • The first $17 million on the development, maintenance, and administration of a statewide digital e-court information system;
    • The next $10.1 million for the Legal Services of New Jersey's efforts to facilitate legal assistance for the poor in civil matters; and
    • Any remaining funds to be used for the development, maintenance, and administration of court information technology.
  • Prohibits existing filing fees from being increased more than a total of $50 for each fee (Sec. 1).
