Vote to adopt an amendment to HB 4123 that requires individuals to present photo identification prior to voting.
Highlights:
Requires voters to provide “valid photo identification” when voting in elections, whereas existing law allows voters to cast a ballot without any identification (Sec. 76).
Defines “valid photo identification” as a document that (Sec. 76):
Shows the name of the voter and the name conforms to the name on the voter's registration;
Shows a photograph of the voter;
Shows an expiration date;
Is not expired; and
Was issued by the commonwealth of Massachusetts or the government of the United States.
Authorizes a voter, without valid photo identification, to cast a provisional ballot and provide identification to the clerk or elections board of their municipality within 8 business days or forfeit the vote (Sec. 76).
