Title: Authorizes Work Release for Certain Offenders
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes officials in charge of county correctional facilities to offer a voluntary work release program.
- Requires the work release program to consist of one of the following (Sec. 1):
- Manual labor to improve or maintain levees, or public facilities;
- Manual labor in support of a non-profit organization;
- Performance of graffiti cleanup for local government entities;
- Performance of weed and rubbish elimination;
- Performance of house repairs or yard services for senior citizens; or
- Non-manual labor, public sector work designated and approved by the sheriff.
- Authorizes the sheriff to permit a work release program participant to receive work release credit for participation in educational programs, vocational programs, substance abuse programs, life skills programs or parenting programs (Sec. 1).
- Requires work release days to consist of 8 to 10 hours of work (Sec. 1).
- Classifies a violation of an individual's written promise to appear for his or her work release job as a misdemeanor (Sec. 1).

- Authorizes the participant's regular employment to be considered on an hour-to-hour basis instead of performing labor in a work release program (Sec. 1).
