Title: Prohibits Private Security Services in Detention Centers
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits private security services in detention centers.
- Prohibits state and local governments from contracting with private companies to operate or manage correctional or detention facilities, beginning with contracts entered into on or after May 1, 2012 (Sec. 3).
- Exempts the following services provided by private contractors from the provisions of this bill (Sec. 3):
- Providing separate care or special treatment services in state work release centers and juvenile residential facilities;
- Providing ancillary services, including, but not limited to, medical, educational, repair, and maintenance contracts; or
- Providing any other services not directly related to the ownership, management or operation of security services in a correctional or detention facility.
