Title: Requires Schools to Have a Longer Summer Vacation
Vote to override a veto of a bill that requires public schools to have a longer summer vacation.
- Requires public schools to begin the new academic year no earlier than the Monday 2 weeks before Labor day, unless August 31 is a Monday, in which case the academic year begins Monday, August 17 (Sec. 2).
- Requires the last day of school to occur no later than the Friday immediately before Memorial Day (Sec. 2).
- Requires at least 180 full days of school, or the hourly equivalent, for each academic year, whereas existing law does not authorize the use of an hourly equivalent (Sec. 2).
- Prohibits local school boards from reducing teachers' salary as a result of the provisions of this bill (Sec. 3).
