Title: Authorizes Professional Mixed Martial Arts Events

Highlights:

  • Requires the State Athletic Commission to make rules and regulations for mixed martial arts events including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 2):

    • Licensing fee schedule;
    • Procedures for participation and promotion of mixed martial arts events;
    • Procedures for the health and safety of participants; and
    • Licensing and regulation of all gyms and facilities that provide training facilities for mixed martial arts events.
  • Defines “mixed martial arts” as any professional combative sports competition in which the rules of such competition authorize the use of various fighting disciplines including certain martial arts techniques such as striking, kicking and grappling (Sec. 2).
  • Requires a representative of the State Athletic Commission to be present at all combative sport events and to submit a written report of the exact conditions of the event (Sec. 2).
  • Establishes an 8.5 percent tax on gross receipts from ticket sales (Sec. 5).
  • Establishes a 3 percent tax on gross receipts from broadcasting rights which may not exceed $50,000 per event (Sec. 5).
  • Repeals the authorization of professional mixed martial arts events 3 years after the enactment of this bill (Sec. 6).
