Title: Prenatal Care for Undocumented Immigrants
Vote to override a veto of a bill that establishes a child health assistance program to provide prenatal care to children of low-income and undocumented immigrant women and children.
- Establishes a new program to provide child health assistance, including prenatal care, to all children regardless of the mother's eligibility and immigration status (Secs. 3 & 4).
- Defines “child” as an individual who is 19 years or younger, including the period from conception until birth (Sec. 4).
- Specifies that children with incomes less than or equal to 185 percent of the federal poverty line are eligible for the program (Sec. 4).
- Specifies that the prenatal care and pregnancy-related services provided by the new program include, but are not limited to, the following (Sec. 4):
- Fees for labor and delivery services;
- Pharmaceuticals and prescription vitamins;
- Outpatient hospital care;
- Imaging services;
- Laboratory testing;
- Hospital costs associated with labor and delivery; and
- Services for conditions that could complicate the pregnancy.
- Specifies that fetuses do not have immigration status (Sec. 1).
