Title: Internet Dating Site Requirements
Vote to pass a bill that requires Internet dating services to provide safety awareness notifications to all Illinois members.
- Requires all Internet dating services to provide a safety awareness notification to all Illinois members that includes, at a minimum, a list and description of the safety measures taken by the service to increase awareness of “safer dating practices” (Sec. 10).
- Defines an “Illinois member” as a customer, client, or participant who submits to an Internet dating service an Illinois billing address or zip code when registering for the service (Sec. 5).
- Requires all Internet dating services which do not conduct criminal background screenings of its members to clearly disclose this to all Illinois members via two or more of the following forms (Sec. 10):
- When any electronic mail message is sent or received;
- In a “click through” requiring members to acknowledge they have received this information;
- On the profile describing a member; and
- On the web-site pages or homepage of the Internet dating service.
- Requires all Internet dating services which do conduct criminal background screenings of its members to clearly disclose this information to all Illinois members prior to permitting them to communicate with another member (Sec. 10).
- Requires all Internet dating services which do conduct background screenings of its members to disclose the following (Sec. 10):
- If they have a policy allowing a member who has a criminal conviction to have access to its services; and
- State that criminal background checks do not necessarily cover all possible convictions and may give members a “false sense of security”.
