Title: Requires an Ultrasound Prior to an Abortion
Vote to pass a bill that requires a physician to perform an ultrasound prior to performing an abortion.
- Requires a physician to perform an ultrasound prior to performing an abortion (Sec. 1).
- Requires the physician to provide a woman upon whom an abortion is to be performed with printed materials including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 1):
- A comprehensive list of health care providers, facilities, and clinics that perform ultrasounds free of charge; and
- A statement that the patient has the right to view and obtain a copy of her ultrasound image free of charge.
- Requires the physician to provide a statement to the pregnant woman about the ultrasound and fetal heartbeat tests that includes the following information (Sec. 1):
- The date and time the ultrasound and fetal heartbeat tests were performed;
- The name of the patient and facility where the ultrasound and fetal heartbeat tests were performed;
- The gestational age of the fetus; and
- Whether or not the patient chose to view the ultrasound and listen to the fetal heartbeat.
- Specifies that any physician who knowingly fails to perform any of the above actions prior to performing an abortion is subject to discipline by the state board of medicine (Sec. 1).
