Title: Authorizes Student Enrollment in Neighborhood Schools
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes student enrollment in neighborhood schools.
- Authorizes parents to enroll their children in the nearest public school to their home except in the following circumstance (Sec. 1):
- If the number of children in an attendance area is more than the capacity of the school then the children living closest to a school will be given first priority in assignment.
- Prohibits any child currently attending a public school from being displaced in order to enroll another child (Sec. 1).
- Authorizes parents to enroll their children in a public school other than the nearest public school in the following circumstances (Sec. 1):
- The child meets any academic or skill prerequisites for enrolling at the school;
- The school has attendance capacity; and
- The parents receive permission from the school district.
