Title: Amends Process of Judiciary Appointment

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the Governor to appoint 5 members to the 9-member judicial nominating commission, effective July 1, 2012.

Highlights:
  • Specifies that the judicial nominating commission will be composed of the following members (Sec. 1):
    • 4 members of the Florida Bar, who are appointed by the Governor and selected from a list of 3 nominees per position submitted by the Board of Governors of the Florida Bar, whereas in existing law the board directly appointed these 4 members; and
    • 5 members who are appointed by, and will serve at the “pleasure” of, the Governor.
  • Specifies that all expired terms or vacancies on the commission will be filled by appointment in the same manner as the previous member (Sec. 1).
