Title: Prohibits the Use of Cell Phones Near Emergency Scenes
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the use of a wireless telephone within 500 feet of the scene of an emergency.
- Prohibits the use of a wireless telephone within 500 feet of an emergency scene (Sec. 5).
- Defines “emergency scene” as a location where an authorized emergency vehicle is present and has activated its oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights (Sec. 5).
- Exempts individuals who are using their phones for the sole purpose of reporting an emergency or communicating with emergency personnel from the provisions of this bill (Sec. 5).
- Specifies that digital photographs and videos are included in the definition of “electronic message”, whereas existing law limited the definition to instant messages, text messages, commands used to access the internet and e-mail communications (Sec. 5).
