Vote to pass a bill that requires the daily recital of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools.

Highlights:

• Requires the Pledge of Allegiance to be recited at the beginning of each school day in each public school classroom in the state (Sec. 1).

• Requires the recitation of the Pledge to be led by a student chosen by the classroom teacher on a rotating basis (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes a student to be excused from recitation if requested in writing by the student’s parent or legal guardian (Sec. 1).

• Requires teachers to place a notice in a conspicuous place that informs students that they have the right to refuse to recite the Pledge (Sec. 1).

• Requires teachers to inform students of the following at least once a year (Sec. 1):
• Participation in the Pledge is voluntary and not compulsory;
• It is acceptable for someone to choose not to participate in the Pledge for religious or other reasons; and
• Students should show respect for students who choose not to participate.
