Title: Increases Transportation Fees

Vote to pass a bill that establishes new license plate fees and increases certain other transportation-related fees, effective October 1, 2012.

Highlights:

  • Establishes a fee of $10 for an original license plate for an automobile, whereas existing law did not specify a fee (Sec. 1).
  • Establishes a fee of $4 for an original license plate for a motorcycle, whereas existing law did not specify a fee (Sec. 1).
  • Increases transportation-related fees as follows (Sec. 1-5):
    • Increases the title application fee from $5 to $12.50;
    • Increases the replacement fee for a motorcycle license plate from $2 to $4;
    • Increases the fee for providing parents or guardians with a list of traffic offenses committed by a driver under the age of 18 in their care from $10 to $15;
    • Increases the fee for providing a person or the person's attorney with an abstract of the person's driving record from $10 to $15; and
    • Increases the fee for providing anyone who sustained property damage or bodily injury by a motor vehicle with an abstract describing the ability of the person operating the motor vehicle to respond to damages from $10 to $15.
  • Increases fees for vehicle dealers as follows (Sec. 6-7):
    • Increases the fee for an original vehicle dealer's license from $750 to $975;
    • Increases the fee for renewing a vehicle dealer's license from $250 to $325; and
    • Increases the maximum amount dealers can charge as a documentary service fee to $150.
