Title: Prohibits Unpaid Wage Collection Ordinances
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits local governments from establishing unpaid wage collection ordinances.
- Prohibits county and municipal governments from establishing any systems to retrieve unpaid wages (Sec. 1).
- Requires an employee to file a claim of unpaid wages in civil court and to complete the following requirements (Sec 1):
- The employer has been given written notification and has not paid the uncompensated wages within 15 days; and
- The claim is filed within 1 year following the unpaid work.
- Prohibits class action lawsuits to obtain unpaid wages (Sec. 1).
- Authorizes a claimant to receive the following damages in a court decision (Sec. 1):
- Wages due plus interest; and
- Court costs.
- Exempts from the provisions of this bill employers with gross annual sales of more than $500,000 (Sec. 1).
