Title: Authorizes Parents to Vote to Close Schools
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes parental intervention in certain schools.
- Authorizes the parent or legal guardian of a student attending a school that has been assigned a “D” or “F” grade to submit a petition to the school board requesting one of the following actions (Sec. 1):
- Close the school;
- Convert the school to a charter school; or
- Dismiss the existing school principal.
- Requires the school board to take action within 30 days of verifying the petition’s signatures if it contains at least 1 parent or guardian from more than 50 percent of student households (Sec. 1).
