Title: Prohibits Courts from Basing Decisions on Foreign Laws
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits courts from making decisions or issuing rulings that are based on certain foreign laws.
- Prohibits any court or tribunal from making a decision or issuing a ruling that is based on a foreign law that does not grant the affected parties the same fundamental liberties, rights, and privileges guaranteed by the Florida Constitution or the United States Constitution (Sec. 1).
- Defines “foreign law” as any law, legal code, or system of jurisdiction outside any U.S. state or territory that is applied to that jurisdiction’s courts and formal or informal tribunals (Sec. 1).
- Specifies that this bill applies only to actual or foreseeable denials of a person’s constitutional rights (Sec. 1).
- Exempts Native American tribes from the provisions of this bill (Sec. 1).
- Specifies that this bill does not require or authorize any court to prohibit any religious organization from making decisions about religious matters (Sec. 1).
