Title: Private Correctional Facilities
Vote to pass a bill that requires the Department of Corrections to privatize certain correctional facilities.
- Requires the Department of Corrections to privatize the management and operation of all correctional facilities in the Southern Florida Region including, but not limited to, prisons, work camps, and work release centers (Sec. 1).
- Specifies that the Department of Corrections will issue 2 or more requests for proposals from private companies for the management and operation of correctional facilities (Sec. 1).
- Requires each proposal to provide, during the first year of the contract, actual cost savings to the state of at least 7 percent of the costs incurred by the state for the 2010-2011 fiscal year for the provision of services at correctional facilities (Sec. 1).
- Requires any contract entered into for the operation of a correctional facility to comply with all federal, state and local laws and all rules of the Department of Corrections (Sec. 1).
- Prohibits any contract between the contractor and the labor organization representing correctional employees from awarding employees the right to strike (Sec. 1).
- Exempts correctional facilities scheduled for closure before June 30, 2012, from the provisions of this bill (Sec. 1).
