Title: Requires an Ultrasound Prior to an Abortion
Vote to pass a bill that requires an ultrasound prior to an abortion.
- Requires a physician to perform an obstetric ultrasound, provide an explanation and medical description of the ultrasound and display the ultrasound to the pregnant woman before informed consent for an abortion may be given (Sec. 1).
- Authorizes the pregnant woman to avert her eyes from the ultrasound images (Sec. 1).
- Exempts physicians and pregnant women from the requirements of this bill in the case of a medical emergency or medical necessity (Sec. 1).
- Limits the fine for a physician’s violation of this bill to a maximum of $100,000 for a first offense and $250,000 for each subsequent offense (Sec. 2).
