Vote to pass a bill that authorizes student-led "inspirational" messages at noncompulsory student events in secondary public schools.
Authorizes students to select and deliver “inspirational” messages, including prayer, at noncompulsory school events under the following circumstances (Sec. 1):
The student government chooses to use a message at an event;
All messages are given by student volunteers; and
The student volunteer is authorized to determine the message’s format and content.
Prohibits school personnel from the following activities (Sec. 1):
Participating in or influencing a student’s choice of message format or content; or
Participating in the selection of a student who will deliver the message.
This is a substitute bill sponsored by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
