Vote to pass a bill that prohibits any individual, business or organization from requiring individuals to join a labor organization as a condition of employment, effective March 14, 2012.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits any individual, business, or organization from requiring an individual to do any of the following as a condition of employment (Sec. 8):
    • Join or remain a member of a labor organization;
    • Pay dues or fees to a labor organization; or
    • Pay an amount that is equivalent to or a pro rata part of dues or fees required of members of a labor organization to a charity or third party.
  • Exempts the following employees from the provisions of this bill (Sec. 1):
    • Federal employees;
    • Employees subject to the federal Railway Labor Act;    
    • Employees employed on federal property;
    • State employees; and
    • Employees of political subdivisions.
