Title: Authorizes Advertising on School Buses

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes school districts to sell commercial advertising space on school buses.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes local boards of education to sell advertising space on the exterior of a school bus, so long as the advertisement does not interfere with the effectiveness of any required reflective, safety, or warning equipment (Sec. 1).
  • Prohibits the advertising of any of the following (Sec. 1):
    • “Sexually oriented businesses;”
    • Alcohol and tobacco products; or
    • Political or campaign advertising.
  • Defines “political or campaign advertising” as including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 1):
    • In support or opposition to a candidate for public office;
    • In support or opposition to a public issue question that will appear on a voter ballot; or
    • Otherwise concerning the advocacy of a public policy issue.
  • Prohibits local boards of education from showing exclusive preference for specific advertisers (Sec. 1).
