Title: Amending Annulment Requirements and Eliminating Marriage Wait Period
Vote to pass a bill that repeals the waiting period for marriage and civil union licenses and authorizes an annulment within 30 days of the ceremony.
-Requires a marriage or civil union license to be issued at the time the application is made, whereas existing law prohibits a license from being granted prior to the completion of a 72-hour waiting period (Sec. 2).
-Authorizes the annulment of a marriage or civil union within 30 days of the ceremony, upon the request of either party (Sec. 5).
-Requires a marriage or civil union licensing official to collect fees totaling $60 from license applicants, which is to be divided as follows, whereas under existing law the fees total $28 (Secs. 3-4):
-$8 to the licensing official, whereas under existing law the official receives $3;
-$22 to the state general fund, whereas under existing law it receives no funds; and
-$30 to the Department of Human Services, whereas under existing law it receives $25.
